5 Instagram Tips for your Business

Do you use, or want to use, Instagram for your business? Here are 5 tips to help you create an engaging and successful account.

Before you start make sure that you have set up a business account. This will give you access to insights so you can see how well your account is doing.

1 Post Regularly

This tip is common for all social media networks. For them to be successful you need to post regularly. It is that consistent presence that will help you build your brand.

Be realistic about how long this will take but don’t let lack of time put you off. This is where we come in, we can maintain an Instagram account for you with regular posts. Contact us to find out more

2 Use good images

To state the obvious – Instagram is an Image based platform. You will need to post good quality images or video on a regular basis. Don’t let this put you off. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you need professional photographs or video, but they do need to look good. For example, an out of focus photo won’t be that appealing. In our experience it is the photo or video taken in the moment on a phone that gets the best results. Video is easier than you think and this article will give you some tips

If it isn’t easy for you to source photos for your business, you can still have an account. It means that you may have to be more creative and/or create graphics to promote your business. This can be time-consuming but once again we can help you with this.

Don’t download photos from the internet unless you are certain you have permission to use them. It is against copyright law and could potentially lead to a big bill. Even ignoring the legal aspect, it is annoying if it is your photo that is used without permission, as we found out.

3 Add your location

If your business serves a specific geographic area add your location to your posts. You should also hashtag your location as our experience suggests this is a better way for people in the local area to find you. We discovered this with a post earlier this year and wrote how important is an Instagram hashtag  Just to let you know that the feature we refer to is no longer available.

4 Use Hashtags

Hashtags get your content found. Here are 5 more tips especially for hashtags that you should consider.

  1. Have a list of core hashtags that relate to your business
  2. Use hashtags that describe the contents of the image
  3. Hashtag the location if applicable
  4. Research suggests that 7- 9 is the optimum number of hashtags
  5. Research also suggests that it doesn’t matter whether you put the hashtags in the post or in the comments. Do what you prefer.

5 Instagram Stories

Instagram stories are a complete blog on their own but they are becoming a more important use of your Instagram. One idea is to tell a story, try posting from an event as it happens.
