Small Steps to Start Your Marketing Journey


“A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step”  For some reason that quote popped into my mind recently.

The fashion for sharing quotes on social media seems to have died down, but of all the many quotes I’ve read over the last few years that one resonated with me. Others have left me raising my eyebrows at their sheer banality.

It is true isn’t it, that to succeed in anything you have to take that first, often small step. A marketing campaign is no different.

Working with clients the first thing we do is identify small steps that they can take to start seeing results. It could be updating a Google my Business listing or rewording social media profiles.

Often marketing is in place but not being utilised as well as it can be. Social media is a good example. Often posts are sporadic and not planned. We help businesses plan their content so that it sends out a consistent message and effectiveness is easier to measure. Clients have also had success with suggestions that we have made for taking their social media activity beyond engaging posts.

Many businesses have great databases but do nothing with them. We have worked with several businesses to set up and write an email newsletter.  We find them extremely cost effective and get good results. Email newsletters are such a great tool because they reach people who are already engaged with your business in some way

Working with another customer we showed them that some of the things they do in their business is newsworthy. They have subsequently built up a good relationship with local media. Press coverage is a very Easy Win

Business networking is a good way to market your business and build relationships. However as with all marketing you need a strategy to make it work for your business. We encourage clients to be honest about the groups they belong to and to use all opportunities to promote their businesses.

We have proved time and again that just taking these small steps can have a big impact on your business.

If you get these basics in place, then you can start to invest in bigger marketing projects.


Identifying these opportunities is often one thing, implementing them can use time a business owner either doesn’t have or would be better spent on other things.
